The application of glass fiber in the field of building materials

2020-04-22 Click:

Glass fiber is an inorganic non-metallic material that can replace metals and has excellent properties. Its preparation method is to shape molten glass into fibrous form through the action of external force. It features high strength, high modulus and low elongation. It has excellent heat resistance and compressibility, a large coefficient of thermal expansion and a high melting point. Its softening temperature can reach 550 to 750℃, it has good chemical stability, is not easy to burn out, and possesses certain excellent properties such as corrosion resistance. It has been widely applied in many fields.

We know that the prominent feature of cement-based building materials is their high compressive strength and low flexural, tensile and impact strength. With the in-depth research and development of glass fibers and the emergence of alkali-resistant glass fibers, a new type of glass fiber reinforced cement material has emerged, which overcomes the defects of the cement matrix. This material can not only enhance the flexural, tensile and impact strength of the cement base, but also increase its tensile strength and impact strength.

Fiberglass reinforced plastic is a composite material with thermosetting or thermoplastic resin as the binder and glass fiber yarn or glass cloth as the filler. It fully exploits the advantages of both materials, featuring light weight and high strength, as well as excellent heat resistance, corrosion resistance and electrical insulation. The applications of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) in the construction field include lighting, sanitation, decoration, water supply and drainage, heating and ventilation, masonry, electrical engineering, molds, etc.

In addition, fiberglass tires are another material where fiberglass is applied in the construction field. It is a glass fiber product formed by wet molding of chopped glass fibers, impregnated with polymer binders, and then dried and cured at high temperatures. It has excellent waterproof performance, is resistant to aging and mold, has stable dimensions and good processing performance. During simultaneous construction, hot solution or cold bonding methods can be adopted, and the construction can be carried out throughout the year without being affected by the climate.
